I was just browsing Flickr and came across EllenJo and I am now officially her biggest fan. First of all you must check out Greetings from Floyd St. which is an ongoing series of travel photos featuring EllenJo's 5 pound Chihuahua, Floyd. Amazing! Most popular pet names of 2008

Veterinary Pet Insurance recently analyzed its database of more than 466,000 insured pets to find the most popular dog and cat names of 2008. For both dogs and cats, Max was the most popular name in 2008. VPI's data indicates that there is a trend toward people names such as Max over more traditional pet names such as Fido. Some of the most popular dog and cat names also rank among the Social Security Administration's most popular baby names. I am guilty as charged!

Steel, Max the Moose, Max Crime Fighter, Cherokee Max, Peanut Max, T.J. Maxx, Duramax, Fatmax, Maxmax, Maxator Midnight and Mad Max McNaughty.

Speaking of the White House, Obama has apparently narrowed his choice to two breeds: Labradoodle and Portuguese Water Dog. Now, I used to run a pet business and since these are very trendy breeds I have a bit of experience with them and I just have two words to say about it - HIGH STRUNG or alternatively GOOD LUCK. No, I'm not bitter because they aren't choosing a Boston Terrier, I just know from experience that these two breeds can be a handful. Luckily the Obamas can afford the best trainers... they may need it. The other disappointing thing about it is that they are not going to find either of these breeds at a shelter or rescue group.

People often ask me how Ruby (the dog) gets along with Kyle and Blue (the cats) and lucky for me, they just ignore each other. I've had some trouble in the past with foster dogs chasing the cats, although they were mostly just curious or wanting to play. Introducing new animals, especially a different species, into the home can be a challenge - which is a topic for another post. Right now I want you to have a look at this video...

I sometimes feel like I'm missing out on mother's day. I may not have human children but I have always had kids of the furry kind. Why not show a friend or family member who has 'pets not kids' that you're thinking about them this mother's day. Send them a Sloppy Kiss ecard.
