People are taking pets into consideration when making large purchasing decisions and according to a recent study by the American Kennel Club some 47% of dog owners think of their pets when buying a car. The market has responded. The Japanese now have more dogs and cats than they do children under 15. Detecting a trend, Honda came up with the W.O.W. concept car at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show designed especially for dogs: detachable, easy-to-clean seats, wooden floors and a netted, built-in pup-crate in the dashboard. Pets in the back seat

I'm not a huge fan of legislating behaviour. I always hope that humans have enough common sense to do the right thing. Good news however that a California assemblyman wants to ban drivers from having pets on their laps while driving. Since people are crazy enough to do that and risk the safety of the dog, themselves and other drivers, this is a great idea. I'm not sure how much of a deterent a $35 fine is though.

It's finally starting to feel like spring in Toronto. Ruby is loving just laying in the sun - inside and outside. She's also getting spoiled for walks. If your dog is going to start spending a lot more time outdoors, you'll need to pick up an insect repellent. (more...)
