Ruby and I are back from our trip! We went to Cornwall, Ontario to visit family. In December my grandparents moved from Toronto to Cornwall to move into a retirement home. Ruby and I were happy for them but sad for ourselves, sad to see them go. Ruby is very close with my grandfather. It's so nice to see my grandfather's eyes light up when Ruby's around.

When we were at the seniors home we took some time to hang out in the common lounge so the residents could meet and pet Ruby. They loved it! Ruby is such a sweet little pooch, very calm and loving, a perfect therapy dog.

Therapy Dogs are used for the benefit, both physical and emotional, of people in hospitals, seniors' residences, nursing homes, day care centres, special needs schools, psychiatric hospitals and many other places where people may be restricted from having pets. The medical profession has widely acknoweledged that stroking and petting animals can have a calming effect, lower blood pressure, and relieve tension.

In fact, despite my crazy schedule, I'm inspired now to officially volunteer. My mother and her two newfies volunteer for Therapeutic Paws of Canada. I think Ruby would enjoy it. Maybe I'll volunteer my cats too! If you're interested, you can also volunteer for The St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog program. If you have a calm, obedient dog with a friendly disposition and want to give something to the community, why not give it a try?
